Vineyard and other news

Summer is here yah!  It has been a bit wet and windy so far. We are right in the middle of flowering at the moment, when we actually want it to be dry and settled . The wind has helped the vines to dry out though. We have had a very slow start to the growing season, but the vines have really taken off in the last week or so. Geoff just told me it has been the hardest year to get the spraying completed with the wind and rain holding him up constantly.

We have just released the Wooing Tree Tickled Pink, possibly the first sweet Rose in New Zealand, 108 g/l of residual sugar and it tastes great!!.

The Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 has just had a string of trophies and gold medals and accolades in the month. It is doing extremely well, see details later in the newsletter....

We  were lucky enough to have Matt Preston, judge from the Master Chef Australia TV programme in the tasting room the other day . He was visiting Central Otago researching a piece for Delicious Magazine next year . Hopefully we get a mention. Jenny one of our cellar door ladies jumped in to get her photo taken.
I have not long got back from a trip to Japan, Korea and China.  In Japan I visited some of our existing customers and apparently when we did the seminar and wine dinner in Okayama I was the first NZ wine down there! We have since had Mayumi Aoki from Okayama visiting Wooing Tree . She won a free trip with NZ Wine Growers sponsored by Air New Zealand so the links continue and should grow. I also did a tasting and wine dinner at Wassy's in Osaka and NZ Bar in Tokyo, which were great fun. The Korea and China (Beijing) trips were to look at the new markets and hopefully we can get some exports there soon. Next year there is a world expo in Shanghai .  There is a massive NZ pavilion featuring NZ products, Ruth Pretty Catering are setting up a restaurant in the pavilion and will be serving Wooing Tree Pinot Noir, this should be great exposure for us in China.

The accolades have continued to come in over the last couple of months :-

Accolades

Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007, 2 Trophies and 8 gold medals now...

Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 wins the South China Morning Post Trophy for the Best Pinot Noir in the world and the Best New World Pinot at the the Hong Kong International Wine Challenge 2009 (IWSC)!!!

This was a huge result for us,  the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong IWSC, is Asia's largest wine competition run in conjunction with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair, which has seen thousands of members of the wine trade visit the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre between 4 and 6 November.  Debra Meiburg MW, director of the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong IWSC, said "The Cathay Pacific Hong Kong IWSC is the world's first authentically Asian wine competition, supported by key factors such as Asian judges, the inclusion of Chinese food and wine pairing categories, and awards for the best wines produced in key Asian countries, including China.

The Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2007 has now won 2 trophies and 8 gold medals this year and many others accolades from magazines and wine writers from around the world, it has been suggested to me from a wine writer that this might be the most awarded NZ Pinot Noir!!

Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2008 Cuisine Nov/Dec 2009 Issue, 5 stars and top 10 NZ Pinot Noir

We have continued our success in Cuisine Magazine, top 10 Pinot Noir 3 out of the last 4 years. This year the Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2008 is 5 stars and top 10, once again Carol Bunn our winemaker did incredibly well having 3 of the top 10 wines and  12 of the 71 wines rated four stars or above. The Wooing Tree Beetle Juice 2008 achieved 4 1/2 stars, no fewer than 71 of the 244 wines tasted 4 stars or above, so this is a fantastic result all round for Wooing Tree.

The coming of Age of NZ Reds showcase in London and Dublin

The Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2005 has been selected for "The coming of Age of NZ Reds" seminars in London and Dublin this coming January, this is great achievement as we are in a very small and select group of some of NZ's very famous and iconic wines once again.
