Central Otago’s Wooing Tree Vineyard has scooped up two gold medals at the Royal Easter Show. Both Wooing Tree Pinot Noir 2010 and Wooing Tree Beetle Juice 2010 were awarded gold medals this year.

1261 wines were judged at the 59th Royal Easter Show Wine Awards 2012 at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland from 17-19 February. The awards are New Zealand’s oldest and longest running national wine competition, with Kate Radburnd and Mike de Garis as Chair and Deputy Chair of judges for 2012.

Wooing Tree not only won two gold medals, but also picked up a silver for the Rosé and 3 bronze medals making it a particularly good medal tally for the small family owned Central Otago vineyard. “We are all very thrilled with this result, it is a great start for the 2010 Pinot Noirs and shows ongoing recognition and consistency for our wines,” says co-owner Steve Farquharson. He added “ We are very excited about our 2010 Pinot Noirs, and it is looking like another very good vintage for Central Otago in general.”

Wooing Tree is a family owned vineyard in the heart of Central Otago, where they specialise in making pinot with passion. Not only do they make Pinot Noir, but also produce a Rosé, a still Blanc de Noir called ‘Blondie’ and a sweet Rosé called ‘Tickled Pink’ from the same grapes. Wooing Tree also produce a small amount of Chardonnay. The wines are made by Peter Bartle and the team at Vinpro. Wooing Tree has had a remarkable first few years, winning 7 trophies, numerous gold medals, 5 star ratings, and praise from wine writers worldwide.
